TEXAS GROUND. A PRACTICAL PLAN.SERVING TEXAS

Before you clear a homesite, mark these things.

The pad, entrance and trees that stay should be part of one conversation.

Bring the current site plan

A rough idea helps with an initial discussion. Construction work needs the current footprint, elevations, access and any fill or testing requirements from the builder or engineer.

Mark more than the house

Think about the driveway, utility routes, septic areas, construction staging and equipment turnaround. A small clear patch may still be difficult to reach with deliveries or a concrete truck.

Decide what stays

Walk the site and agree on retained trees and work limits before cutting. Keep room for roots and equipment movement; a tree can be damaged without its trunk being touched.

Assign the next steps

Clearing, grubbing, fill placement, testing, drainage and stabilization are separate responsibilities. Confirm who does each part and what the next contractor is expected to receive.
